Hotels in Swansea
Swansea curves around its bay, so the hotel you want depends on whether you prefer the city, the seafront or somewhere gentler along the shore. The main areas are set out below.
The Marina and SA1
The Marina and the SA1 waterfront district sit beside the water on the east side of the centre. The streets are open and fairly new, with plenty of space around the buildings, and the setting is more relaxed than the older centre. The main shopping streets are reachable on foot from there, though the route is more pleasant in dry weather.

The city centre near High Street station
Swansea's railway station is on High Street, on the northern side of the centre. A hotel in the central streets between the station and the seafront makes arriving by train simple, and everything you might need is a short walk. Expect more noise from the street at weekends, especially close to the bars.

Uplands for a residential feel
Uplands lies to the west of the centre, a mostly residential district with a shopping street of its own. Accommodation here is quieter and the surroundings are calmer, but from the station you will want a bus or a cab, not a walk.

Mumbles along the bay
Mumbles is a seaside village a few miles west of the centre, along the edge of the bay. It is the choice for a slower stay with the sea close by, and it has its own bars and places to eat. Allow for the journey in and out of the city, which takes longer on busy evenings.

Arriving without a scene
When you book, find out how late the desk is staffed and whether guests walk through a bar or lounge to reach their room. Ask for a quiet room, and if you are meeting someone, handle the paperwork before they get there. A calm arrival is mostly about the questions you put to the hotel in advance.

Frequently asked questions
Central hotels are close enough to walk. For the Marina or anywhere further out, a short taxi ride is easier, especially with a bag.
It can be, as buses and taxis link it with the centre, but check the last bus home so you are not caught out.
